Influencing Public Policy

TechPoint is the leading advocate for Indiana's technology-based businesses, serving as a highly effective representative before state government. With statewide support from diverse industries that reside at the intersection of technology, business, and government, TechPoint has amassed a strong track record of achievement in successive legislative sessions.

Technology, in all of its forms and functions, represents the most important component of Indiana's economic growth. Working with elected officials and government leaders, TechPoint promotes legislative and regulatory changes to help technology-based enterprise thrive in Indiana.

The slate of policy changes advocated by TechPoint and passed by the legislature in recent years include: expanded property tax abatements for information technology (IT) and logistics equipment; a permanent extension of and 50 percent increase in the research and development (R&D) tax credit; a new sales tax exemption for R&D equipment; an increase in available venture capital tax credits; a new broadband finance authority; key appropriations for the 21st Century Research and Technology Fund and certified technology parks; and the historic change to daylight-saving time, among others.

In addition to a lobbying team of experienced political and legislative veterans, TechPoint’s strength is its diverse Advocacy Committee. This committee helps generate new policy ideas and is a credible voice for technology interests across the state.

By supporting TechPoint and becoming involved in government affairs you are:

  • Improving your ability to do business – TechPoint’s size and reputation gives members real clout with key Indiana officials and elected representatives.
  • Helping to develop, expand, and protect Indiana's growing technology community by advocating sound public policies.
  • Able to track State legislative and regulatory developments that have a direct bottom-line impact on your business through conferences, meetings, and weekly updates from TechPoint’s lobbying staff.
