Initiatives
TechPoint continues to be committed to growing Indiana’s high-tech industries and diversifying our economy through entrepreneurship, a mission we’ve pursued from the origins of our initiative in the 1980s. Success in the 21st century economy will be enjoyed by states and regions with a skilled, educated workforce, a critical mass of high-tech innovation and the ability to accelerate the movement of new ideas into the marketplace: TechPoint is a catalyst for helping Indiana build these competitive advantages.
Within this broader context, we’ve not lost sight of our core purpose – the development of Indiana’s technology industry, a sector that has generated more than $1 billion in new Hoosier wealth creation and reinvestment over the past decade. TechPoint today serves as the preeminent voice for Indiana's growing technology-based economy, including a strong role in public policy advocacy.
To that end, TechPoint's addresses these broad issues through a variety of initiatives:
Entrepreneurship
For years, TechPoint has been providing practical start-up training through its Indiana Entrepreneurship Bootcamp events held throughout Indiana. Other monthly and annual TechPoint events regularly focus on entrepreneurial opportunities and highlight some of the state’s most successful entrepreneurs.
Capital Formation
TechPoint’s President and CEO Jim Jay serves as Managing Director for TechPoint Ventures through a partnership with the HALO Capital Group, which provides early-stage venture capital for Indiana start-ups. TechPoint also is a strong advocate for the Indiana 21st Century Research and Technology Fund – a state fund that invests in the development and commercialization of advanced Indiana technologies.
Human Capital
In addition to providing numerous continuing education opportunities through monthly events and professional roundtables, TechPoint partners with the Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship, a unique employment program that places high achieving students with some of Indiana's fastest growing entrepreneurial companies.
Technology Micro-Clusters
TechPoint supports the development of emerging technology niches by serving as a catalyst for growth that connects thought leaders, commissions and publicizes research, and draws attention to unique Indiana strengths and opportunities. ALHIT is a micro-cluster focused on health information technology and Measured Marketing is dedicated to ROI-based Internet marketing and user experiences.
