AIT surprises employees with mid-year bonus

AIT Laboratories' 300 employees reacted with shock, awe and tears today upon learning they will share $2 million in bonus money. The Indianapolis company, founded in 1990, began doling out annual profit-sharing bonuses to workers in 2007. But this is the first mid-year bonus. AIT revenue increased 93 percent in the first five months of the year from the same stretch last year, CEO Michael A. Evans said.
"We felt it was only appropriate to share this with employees; they've earned it," he said. "We'll do it again at the end of the year." Production laboratory employees and others who have been with the firm at least six months earned bonuses equivalent to 40 percent of their salaries in the first half of 2009. Employees who have been with AIT less than six months received pro-rated bonuses.
