Summer may be over, but the TechPointX talent team is already looking forward to 2018 with the culmination of Xtern Finalist Day on Friday, November 10.

Xtern, the largest and longest-running of the TechPoint’s talent pipeline programs, will take place starting late May 2018 and will run through August until universities are back in session for the fall semester. These students represent the best computer science and other tech-skilled students from universities across Indiana and from a number of out-of-state schools. With housing, professional networking, skills development and community engagement, the Xtern program is touted as “The Ultimate Tech Internship Experience.”

The TechPointX talent team was represented on 30 campuses between August and mid-October, and numerous relationships were built with universities across the nation to ensure that we are sourcing the next generation of tech talent from every corner of our nation.

Class of 2018 applicant stats:

  • 1,500 applicants from 95 universities and 42 home states, including DC and Puerto Rico
  • 143 finalists chosen from the applicant pool, representing 39 universities and 23 home states
  • 13% increase in females from 2016
  • 36% people of color in 2016 and 2017

Class of 2018 company stats:

  • 61 hiring companies and 82 hiring teams
  • 22% increase in companies from 2016
  • 40% increase in departments from 2016

How has Xtern made a difference in building our emerging tech hub? “Our company had one Xtern each of the last two years and plans to have two next year. The talent level of our first Xtern, an Ohio State University student, was nothing short of remarkable. To be honest, I wasn’t even aware this level of talent existed at the intern level. He was assisting to train and mentor the rest of our intern class. That intern recently became a full-time hire,” said Eric Sendlebach, CTO of MOBI.
